(Transistor 66) Quite simply Bloodshot Bill is one of the
most spectacular live performers on earth, and it would be futile to try to
describe in words why. It also would be futile to try to capture that in a
studio, so beautifully he goes in another direction, and instead of bottling his
fury and ridiculous energy and audience/performer sex he instead considers what
made those slick Nashville and L.A. rockabilly-adjacent records so great. Which
isn’t to say this is a slick record, just that it emulates a Speedy West high-end
recording, then makes it raw, instead of trying to copy a vintage hasil Adkins
side. With his lusty froglike voice and guitar tone to match BB is just the man
to make some special sounds in the studio, and on his best record yet he’s all
kinds of defintion of special!
