(Paper + Plastick, 2020) These Shanghai-dwelling sorta-Chinese dissidents have been musically all over the place for the last decade, sometimes being Detroit-style pre-punkers, often art rockers, occasionally borderline Dr. Demento musical pranksters, and periodically punk history mash up bar band maniacs. But for things to get so fucked up in the world and for them to get so angry that they just make an album that is mostly a furious political 80s hardcore record is a testament to the terror that was the late 2010s...and beyond. Sure they throw in a gloomy, eerie cover of teen tragedy classic "Endless Sleep" and have an all sax solo track and have a song that sounds like you're at a 50s prom dance, so it's not exactly MDC. But it is as close as you can expect from a (glorious) Chinese bootleg.
