The Optic Nerve “Penelope Tuesday” b/w “Here to Stay”

(State, 2015) I am not a huge fan of the 80s NY Garage scene: seeing a Midnight Records logo gives me a Pavlov-ian almost-throw-up-in-your-mouth reaction, but I have nothing bad whatsoever to say about these flower jangle, decade-old, never released recordings by this band from that region and era. The “A” side, lyrically, stylistically, and expressively seems like an almost cynical recreation of specific 60s songwriting and tropes, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t charm the bellbottoms off me. And the b-side is just as charming. This hit my optimum nerve!
