Bob Wayne "Outlaw Carnie"

(Century Media) Though it's easy to fetishize country music and sing with a fake twang, it's rare for someone to get super specific and get it right. Wayne loves the stuff that everyone should love:  David Allan Coe, Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels' story songs, crazy trucker music, and devil tales. That he understands what makes all of these things awesome well enough to follow formulas without getting coldly formulaic, to denounce love, lionize drug addicts, and make trucks, motorhomes, and hell sound like the places to be is a triumph of evil over good and of sincere fake twang over bullshit fake twang. DAC would approve! Cuz if this ain't country you can kiss something below my belt.
