(Oily,
darylseitchik.tumblr.com) It used to be kids looked like lazy readers when they
read comics instead of “real books”, but for the last decade half of the
so-called chapter books they read are in a heavily illustrated, pseudo comics,
“diary” form, most having the exact same snide sense of humor, and while I
won’t brand the kids as lazy, 90% of the writers sure seem like
take-the-easy-route hacks. This somber, funny minicomic takes the
pre-adolescent form and makes it exactly what it should be: anon-intentionally
funny, matter-of-factly-angstly, awkwardly worded, shittily spelled, work of
sublime poetry. The spare yet jarring drawings don’t hurt the cause, either.
