Storm Large "La Bonheur"

(Heinz, 2014) An album prominently featuring standards, especially for someone firmly rooted in lounge/torch/cabaret nostalgia, is almost by definition unambitious. But this album opens with a version of "I've Got You Under My Skin" that makes "Bohemian Rhapsody" seem subtle, has a duet with a clown (Puddles Pity Party), gives equal homage to Cole Porter and Ozzy, and downright attacks and  owns "Lady is a Tramp." I guess my only rub against the album is it seems a little long, but if I'm excited by ambitiousness I can't complain about too much-ism.
