"La Onda Vampi" compilation

(Vampi) For the last decade Munster Records subsidiary Vampisoul has been releasing some of the best slinky funkiness ever set to recording tape on this wide planet. This sampler picks a fairly conservative collection of the finest tracks they’ve released. And perhaps it says something about my Catholic tastes that my favorites here are the most regular sounding of the bunch – Margerita Sierra’s awesome “Cha Cha Twist” form last year’s “Chicas” collection and a killer Amos Milburn track from their King Records comp. But you’ll dig the African, South American, African American and parts unknown tracks, and best of all the coolest song on the whole CD, contemporary Brazilian garage rockers Garotas Suecas’ Gil/Velosa cover, “Bat Macumba” is the only previously unreleased thing on here.
